Pisces rising

Pisces rising means Pisces was the sign coming up over the eastern horizon at the minute of birth. Each sign rises for about two hours of every day, so the rising sign needs a birth time, and it sets the houses of the whole chart.

StarMap has a recorded birth time (rated AA, A or B by Astro-Databank) for 356 of its 6,194 well-known people, and 19 of them are Pisces rising. Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston and José Saramago are among them. Their commonest Sun signs are Leo (6), Gemini (2) and Virgo (2).

When Pisces is rising

Every sign rises once a day, for about two hours, and the hour depends on the date: at sunrise the rising sign is the Sun’s own, so Pisces comes up at dawn while the Sun is in Pisces (February and March), about two hours after dawn a month earlier, four hours the month before that, and so on round the clock; half a year from Pisces season it rises around sunset. Which two hours it was on a birth date, at the birthplace, is what the rising sign calculator works out; without a time it lists which sign was rising at each hour of that date.

Positions are computed from each person’s birth date and place with the astronomy-engine ephemeris, checked against Swiss Ephemeris. Birth data comes from Wikidata; a placement is listed only when it holds for the whole birth date, and a rising sign only with a birth time Astro-Databank records.
