Whitney Houston's Estate in New Jersey on Star MapStar Map

October 22, 2013

Whitney Houston, the 80’s and 90’s pop legend, was found dead in her Beverly Hilton hotel room on Saturday, February 11, 2012. The shocking news came on the night of music industry’s Grammy Awards weekend.

On Sunday, July 1st, the BET Awards had a special evening planned for the late Whitney Houston.  The awards show paid tribute to the late artist, and the ceremony featured Mariah Carey retelling stories and sharing memories, while R&B singers Brandy and Monica performed renditions of Houston’s song. The most moving moment, however, was when Whitney’s mother Cissy performed “Bridge Over Troubled Water”, leaving many audience members in tears.

Just a few weeks earlier, her $1.75 million mansion in New Jersey was taken off the market.  Houston had lived in the house with ex-husband Bobby Brown, and it’s where the activities that led the talented musician to her downfall happend.

Whitney Houston’s home was built in 1992:

In addition to the hotel-like master bedroom suite, the house has 5 bedrooms and 4.2 baths.  According to the listing, it is set on a little “over 5 acres in a haven of lushly landscaped privacy” and includes a number of “outstanding features”, including “curved window-walls, domed skylights, a gracefully flowing floor plan, and a walk-out lower entertainment level allowing for contiguous enjoyment of superb tiered terraces and lawns”.  Sounds fancy, right?

The 2 Emmy and 6 Grammy Award troubled star owned these two neighboring lots in New Jersey, with the larger mansion as her main home. Houston almost lost both of these properties to foreclosure in 2007.  You can also check out Whitney Houston’s former mansion in Alpharetta, Georgia.

UPDATE: Houston’s death is under investigation as the cause is still unknown. Rumors in Beverly Hills have it that she might have drowned in her Beverly Hilton hotel room tub after loosing consciousness from a prescription drug overdose. As did the sudden passing of Michael Jackson in 2009, Whitney Houston’s death shook the nation. Many Grammy Award winners paid tribute to her on Sunday evening, during their acceptance speeches.
