While summer is officially over and school is back in session for the rest of the country, Southern California is in the midst of it’s annual, scorching heat wave with temperatures climbing north of 110°. So needless to say the beach is where you want to be if visiting Los Angeles this time of year.
Beaches have a natural beauty that make them enjoyable not only during the summer, but any time of the year. On an average, nice day in Los Angeles, I would typically recommend going for a runyon canyon hike or hitting Mandeville Canyon for a nice, long bike ride. But with temperatures hitting record high this year, I advise you to stay close to the water.
Los Angeles is well known for some of the best beaches in California, so we’ve put together our recommendation list of the most notable, must visit beaches in Southern California. Let’s take a look.
1. Zuma Beach, Malibu
Clean and not too crowded, you can find everything here: families, surfers, friends playing volleyball. The sprawling Santa Monica Mountains make for a beautiful backdrop and parking is free on Westward Beach Road, right off Pacific Coast Highway.
Food and Drink: For food, check out Reel Inn, Taverna Tony, Malibu Family Wines, or any other place at the local mall: Malibu Country Mart. But keep in mind, you are not allowed to drink alcohol on the beach.
This beach is great for swimming as there are plenty of lifeguards on duty. And if you’re lucky, you can spot some dolphins and whales.
