Taurus

Taurus is the Sun sign of anyone born while the Sun is in Taurus: in 2026, from 20 April 2026, 01:39 UTC to 21 May 2026, 00:37 UTC. The dates move by up to a day from year to year, so a birthday at either end needs the year, and sometimes the hour, to settle its sign. The Sun is next in Taurus from 20 April 2027.

Taurus is a fixed earth sign ruled by Venus; its symbol is the bull. Astrologers read it for the way it builds. Of the 6,194 well-known people in StarMap's dataset, 494 have the Sun in Taurus for the whole of their birth date; Salvador Dalí, Mark Zuckerberg and Anggun are among them. 26 more were born on a day the Sun entered or left Taurus and are left out, because the hour decides and StarMap has no birth time for them.

Salvador Dalí and Mark Zuckerberg were both born with the Sun in Taurus. Is your Sun in Taurus?Draw your birth chart, free: your Sun, Moon and rising sign from the real sky

Born on the edge: 20 April and 21 May

  • 20 April, the first day of Taurus season this year, is shared with Aries. Since 1900, the Sun was in Taurus all day in 20 years, in Aries all day in 11, and changed sign during the day in 96, when the hour and place of birth decide.
  • 21 May, the last day of Taurus season this year, is shared with Gemini. Since 1900, the Sun was in Taurus all day in 11 years, in Gemini all day in 21, and changed sign during the day in 95, when the hour and place of birth decide.

The three decans of Taurus in 2026

Astrologers divide each sign into three decans of ten degrees, and read the second and third as coloured by the other two earth signs (Virgo and Capricorn). The Sun takes about ten days to cross each.

Taurus traits

Taurus builds. The sign is read for steadiness: a preference for what lasts over what is new, a strong feel for the physical world (food, textures, gardens, the right chair), and a pace that will not be hurried. A Taurus Sun tends to decide slowly and then not change its mind, which reads as loyalty to the people it chooses and as stubbornness to everyone else.

The shadow side is inertia: comfort that turns into a rut, possessiveness about people as well as things, and a refusal to move even when the ground has shifted. Astrologers describe the sign's work as telling the difference between what is worth keeping and what is merely familiar.

Taurus in love

In love, Taurus is slow to begin and slow to end. Affection shows in presence rather than declarations: cooking, turning up, remembering. The sign wants a settled life with someone and is unsettled by games and sudden changes. Its lesson is that holding on tightly is not the same as holding well.

Taurus at work

At work, Taurus is the reliable one, happiest with a craft that improves over years and a routine it can own: cooking, making, growing, building, anything with a tangible result. It dislikes being rushed and distrusts plans that change weekly. Give it time and good materials and the result tends to be solid.

What people get wrong: that Taurus is lazy. The sign is slow, which is different. It conserves effort for what it has decided matters and then outlasts everyone; the same person who will not be hurried on a Tuesday will give a decade to a garden or a craft without complaint.

A Sun sign is one placement of ten. The Moon, the rising sign and the planets change how it plays out: a Taurus Sun with a Scorpio Moon reads differently from one with the Moon in Taurus too. Draw your whole chart to see yours.

Taurus and the other signs

  • Same element (earth): Virgo and Capricorn, a trine apart, read as the signs that understand Taurus without trying.
  • Opposite: Scorpio, six months away, read as the sign Taurus is drawn to and argues with.
  • Same modality (fixed): Leo and Aquarius, a square apart, the friction that gets things done.
  • Two signs either side: Cancer and Pisces, a sextile apart, easy company of a different kind.

Taurus with every sign, each pairing with the famous couples who have it: Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces.

Questions people ask

What are the Taurus dates?

In 2026 the Sun is in Taurus from 20 April 2026, 01:39 UTC to 21 May 2026, 00:37 UTC. Most years it enters on 20 April or the day either side and leaves on 21 May or the day either side; the table above gives the minute for each year. A birthday on one of those edge days needs the year, and sometimes the time and place of birth, to settle its sign.

Is 20 April a Taurus or a Aries?

Not always. 20 April is the first day of Taurus season in 2026, but the Sun's sign on that date depends on the year: of the 127 years from 1900 to 2026, in 20 the Sun was in Taurus all day, in 11 it was in Aries all day and in 96 it entered Taurus during the day, so the hour and the place of birth decide. The birthday page for 20 April lists every year.

Is 21 May a Taurus or a Gemini?

Not always. 21 May is the last day of Taurus season in 2026, but the Sun's sign on that date depends on the year: of the 127 years from 1900 to 2026, in 11 the Sun was in Taurus all day, in 21 it was in Gemini all day and in 95 it left Taurus for Gemini during the day, so the hour and the place of birth decide. The birthday page for 21 May lists every year.

What planet rules Taurus?

Venus. The ruler is read as the sign's manner: where Venus sits in a Taurus Sun's own chart colours how the sign shows.

What element is Taurus?

Earth, with Virgo and Capricorn: the three earth signs sit a third of the zodiac apart and are read as easy company for one another. Taurus is also fixed, like Leo and Aquarius and Scorpio, which share its way of acting and are read as the signs it rubs against.

Which famous people are Taurus?

Salvador Dalí, Mark Zuckerberg, Anggun, Audrey Hepburn and Satyajit Ray all have the Sun in Taurus. StarMap lists 494 well-known Taurus Suns, each with a birth chart computed from their birth date and place.

Are Taurus men and Taurus women different?

Not in the chart: astrology reads the Sun in Taurus the same way whatever a person's gender. What people describe as the Taurus man is usually Mars in a chart, how someone pursues what they want, and the Taurus woman Venus or the Moon, how they love and what they need; each has its own page for Taurus, with the famous people who have it.

Taurus horoscopes

Dates are computed from the Sun’s position with the astronomy-engine ephemeris, checked against Swiss Ephemeris, in the tropical zodiac. Birth data comes from Wikidata; a person is listed only when the Sun was in Taurus for the whole of their birth date. Readings describe tendencies, for entertainment and self-reflection; StarMap predicts nothing. All twelve signs.
