Mercury in Cancer

Mercury in Cancer is where Mercury sat in the zodiac at the moment of birth, the part of a chart read for how you think, talk and learn. Mercury stays in a sign for two to ten weeks, longer when it turns retrograde. Cancer is a cardinal water sign.

Of the 6,194 well-known people in StarMap's dataset, 456 have Mercury in Cancer for the whole of their birth date. Donald Trump, Lionel Messi and Elon Musk are among them. Their commonest Sun signs are Cancer (229), Gemini (123) and Leo (81). 29 more were born on a day Mercury moved into or out of Cancer and are left out, because the hour decides and StarMap has no birth time for them.

What Mercury in Cancer means

Read for how you think, talk and learn. If this is your placement:

You think in terms of memory and feeling as much as logic, and you communicate best when there is emotional trust in the room. Mood can colour how a fact gets delivered or received. Years after the details have faded, you remember exactly how a conversation felt.

One placement is one part of a chart; the Sun, the Moon, the rising sign and the planets around them change how it plays out. Draw your whole chart to see the rest.

Positions are computed from each person’s birth date and place with the astronomy-engine ephemeris, checked against Swiss Ephemeris. Birth data comes from Wikidata; a placement is listed only when it holds for the whole birth date, and a rising sign only with a birth time Astro-Databank records. Readings describe tendencies, for entertainment and self-reflection; StarMap predicts nothing. Every planet in every sign.
